BC Children's Hospital

We arrived here. The BC childrens/ womens hospital is a MAZE! I feel like a mouse that has to memorize the little twists and turns. It is not easy to find things here. Good thing they hand out maps at the front.

It's been a crazy long day that I want to fill you in on but I'm too tired.

Suffice it to say that Anaya is doing well. She is not having any health deterioration at the moment. We are here to get a full assessment and access resources for her that we cannot get in Nelson.

We are looking into Bi-pap apnea support and also pain relief/management and physiotherapy support - as well as how to get aids for her such as a wheelchair and special car seat.

I've been so busy taking care of her the last few days that I've let myself get run down. I really need some help and support. I could really use a break. I need sleep. I need a kid-free day. I really hope we can get into "Canuck Place". http://www.canuckplace.org/ It's a hospice for palliative kids here in Vancouver. They provide care so that parents of special kids can have a break from having to manage so much all the time.

I'm so exhausted. It's 1 am here and Anaya's due for a feed. They don't have the nursing resources to let me have the night off...

Thank God for friends like Kyle, Cam and Katie for being my Hero's and filling my day with awesomeness (friendship, food, phone charger, laughter and LOVE!) You guys are the best.

  9. Thanks for your post, Camara. I think I can speak for everyone who reads your blog that we were all worried about the little princess but are happy to know she is doing well. You are in the right place! I'm glad to hear Anaya will be assessed for some much needed supports. Fingers crossed and lots of prayers that you'll get into Canuck House and get some rest. A tired and worn out Mama is a tired and worn out Mama :) Take good care of yourself. Happy to know Anaya is being well taken care of. Thoughts and prayers for you both!

  10. You are my hero. I stumbled upon your blog about a month ago. I too, have children with special needs though not as difficult as yours, but still exhausting and challenging. Ever since then, whenever I feel overwhelmed, I think of you and it brings me courage. Thank you for sharing your life with the world. You and your family are continually in my thoughts and prayers.

  11. I wish that they had better resources there in BC like they do here in Nashville at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. I can't believe that they don't have the nurses for someone to come and feed her. Strange. I am sorry about this. If I lived in or near BC, I would help you out and even let you stay with us if you needed to. My heart goes out to you, your daughter, and your family.

  12. Camara, I hope you do get into the Canuck Place so you can have a bit of much needed rest and relaxation!! My thoughts are with you, I hope you can get a better car seat for Anaya so the trip back to Nelson will be better than the trip down to the coast. Much love, be well, thinking of you and Anaya xox.
