November 19, 2010

We made it to Calgary. We had our consultation with the surgeon (Dr.Beaudry) and he will be giving Anaya a G-tube on November 26. We are going to wait out the week here in Calgary and hope the weather warms up a bit. This photo was taken yesterday of my grandfather Al and his great-granddaughter. He recently had his leg amputated and spends lots of time laying down. Perfect spot to put Anaya for a snuggle.

We arrived to find lots of donated milk waiting for us. It was so wonderful. Some of the donors included sweet little gifts for Anaya and I. We are so incredibly grateful - Thank You!

I have mixed feelings about the surgery I'm glad that it's going to be done but I'm scared. I really need Brent to be here for that. We are working on getting him here for Friday morning - and I have to find someone to watch Solara for a few days.

We are trying to remember the peace we felt on tuesday during the Medicine Buddha meditation. Here is Rinpoche with Anaya.

  1. That's a lovely picture of Anaya and her great-grandfather. I hope your husband can get to Calgary to support you and Anaya, and that you can get child-care for Solara. It must be scary having your daughter go for surgery. I wish there was something I could do to support you, even take you for a cup of tea and wrap my arms around you and give you a big, warm hug. We are sending you our good thoughts and prayers to your family. xo

  2. I have been thinking a lot about you (Camara), Anaya and your nurse Joanne today. It was such a pleasure and honour to meet you all yesterday; and to get to cuddle with the gorgeous Anaya.

WHAT a beautiful little girl. You can see her beauty in her skin, her hair and most especially in her perfect, little eyes! What a gorgeous little girl she is.

I realized today what great things Anaya is accomplishing in her life. I am not talking about what she is clearly giving you, as a family, in Nelson. That must be indescribable for you.

But outside of that, Anaya has created a whole, growing community of caring parents (milky mums and dads, as you call them :o) ) who want to go out of their ways to try to help someone at a time of need. So often we are all just too caught up in the "busy-ness" of our own lives, to spend much time helping others. Anaya is lifting people to another level, enabling them to look beyond themselves and see ways to try to help another family in whatever way they can - be it expressing more milk, driving milk across town in a blizzard etc. etc. Being able to try to selflessly serve other people, helps elevate someone. Anaya is giving that gift to so many people.

Beyond that, Anaya is also creating a legacy. A legacy which reflects a critical need for milk banks for Anaya herself, but also for other friends of Anaya's, other babies who either now, or in the future, have the need of donated breast milk. The work you and Anaya are doing in this arena, in terms of building media relationships is all helping bring about this critical change.

What an amazing little girl, and what a difference she is making!!!

Wishing you all the absolute best for Friday. We will be thinking of you, praying for you and crossing everything we have, as Anaya has her surgery.

If there is anything you need, please do not hesitate to ask.

    With love,
    Sarah, Richard and Nathaniel xxx
